1. Mexico – La Noche Triste Treasury
In 1520 the Spaniards occupied the Aztec capital, Tenochtitlan. As you can imagine, they were not good guests, so the Aztecs took the decision to expel them from the city. During the military manoeuvres, the Aztec leader ordered to bury all the gold from the island. In addition, the city of Tenochtitlan was an island in the middle of the lake, so the Aztecs decided to simply throw Spanish soldiers into the water. Because they were wearing heavy armour and gold, they drowned on the spot. Tenochtitlan is now a part of modern Mexico. To this day, there is a legend of the hidden Aztecs’ treasure on the island of Tenochtitlan.
2. Coco Islands – Treasure of Lima
An English Captain William Thompson during the voyage in 1820 was ordered to take the treasury from the capital of Peru – Lima. Today, the value of the treasure is estimated at $ 269,000,000. Unfortunately, the treasure has never returned to Peru. The legend says that Thompson hid the loot somewhere near the Coco Islands, near Costa Rica. Despite countless expeditions, no one has ever found the treasure.
