The search for Atlantis or its remains to this day illuminate the imagination of people. Especially in the context of Troy, which for centuries was considered an invented city, only the discoveries of the twentieth century have confirmed that such a city really existed. But how do we look for Atlantis, which disappeared under water?
New traces of antique construction have been found in the Pacific, and research is beginning to go in the direction of proving that perhaps this is a mythical Atlantis! Precisely the development of the technique allows you to thoroughly investigate the ruins of Nan Madol. It was discovered that the city was surrounded by 12 dams that were supposed to protect it from flooding. Mark McCoy, who along with his crew investigates the ruins, notes that Nan Madol may have been the main city in the area, and even the capital and economic and political center.
So far 92 places have been discovered and there are still more and more of them. Research is developing and showing more and more details – architecture and solutions in buildings. The ruins contain about 750,000 tons of black stone, which was transported without the use of rollers or belts! Nan Madol means “space between”.
Interestingly, the first ruins were discovered at this site in 1928 and spurred the imagination of HP Lovecraft, who based used the ruins to create the city of R’iyeh from his story of Cthulhu.
