“Baby carrots” are small carrots that are peeled and packaged in plastic bags. They look fresh and delicious, which is why parents often give them to children as a healthy and delicious snack.
The name “baby” suggests that they’re immature carrots, but nothing could be further from the truth. They’re the most ordinary carrots of all, which go through an industrial treatment process and are dipped in something that has absolutely nothing to do with being healthy.
Where did they come from?
For years, people have preferred to choose regular-shaped carrots, while the rest was transformed into animal feed. One American farmer – Mike Yurosek said that it would be a waste to throw them away, because they can still earn a lot from their sale. His idea was to cut the rejected carrots into smaller pieces and pack them in bags. That’s exactly what he did and tiny “baby carrots” hit the market.
Why is it better not to eat them? More about that on the next page!
