Thanks to the development of various means of transport, travel time has considerably decreased, making local products and goods easily available in distant parts of the globe. The result is e.g. high availability of tropical fruits in Polish stores. Although they’re nutritious and delicious, you need to be very careful with them.
One of the most popular fruit grown in warm countries is the banana. It not only tastes good, but it’s also very nutritious and is a great source of energy. On top of that, it’s reasonably priced, so Europeans buy them often. Maria, a young British mother, also puts bananas into her cart when grocery shopping. Unfortunately, one of the purchased fruit turned out to be a deadly threat.
As usual during her weekly shopping, Maria bought fruit for her daughter. Among them were bananas, in their original sealed packaging. When she returned home, she simply placed them on the table along with the rest of the groceries. Then her daughter reached for the bananas and took one out of the bag, but Maria quickly snatched the fruit from her hand. She saw something on it which would soon frighten her even more…
What did the young Englishwoman see on the banana?
There was a white spot on the banana peel, so Maria’s first thought was that it’s ordinary mold, and as she went to throw the fruit away, something told her to take a closer look at the imperfection. Using a wooden skewer, she gently poked the hairy white patch, and then realized that it was a spider cocoon!
This hideous sight can effectively make bananas inedible for you in the future.
More about Mary’s discovery and the effects of these spider bites can be found on the next page of the article.
