A woman found this dying little thing by the road. She didn’t expect her life to change 180 degrees after taking it home!
In the year 2007 a woman from Finland noticed a small animal lying huddled by the road. She approached closer to check if it was still breathing. It turned out to be a small squirrel that was tossed out of its nest. After a few minutes holding the little thing in her hands it started to give signs of living.
The lady took the squirrel home and took care of it. It started to slowly get back on its feet, but wouldn’t be able to return to the forest since it was blind in one eye.

How cute! How wonderful that a human being would be so kind to be kind to a little helpless animal. If not for her act of kindness, this beautiful little being might never have made it. I love the picture in the blankets and pillow! I’m such a softie when it comes to animals!
It is a beautiful little animal, and I imagine that it will be a friend for life to the person who rescued it.
In 2013 he died
Nice to hear a happy rescue story, but I REALLY hate to see pictures that don’t belong… There were several different types of squirrels shown. If something is going to be made up at least be smart enough to get the pictures right.
Don’t be an ass! It is a flying squirrel. Have you ever tried to photograph or video tape a squirrel happily running around a house? These compassionate people rescued and loved an animal that would not have survived another 2 hours if not for them; and he lived a happy 6 yrs. in their care. Show some decency!
Pictures all are the same except the one showing a squirrel near Arttu’s memorial. Not sure what you’re looking at!
They were all the same. What makes you say “several different types of squirrels? Maybe you have poor vision? Maybe the different views and lighting made it seem different to you? It seems to me that anyone could tell that it was the same squirrel.
They are all the same little guy. You should look closer. I’m so glad you were kind enough to let him have a chance at a good life. God bless you and keep you.
They also look different as they go thru different states in their life. We raised two grey squirrels when I was a kid. One was only 2 days old when we found him. we took turns feeding him every 2 hours around the clock for a number of weeks. I took him out and “taught” him how to climb trees. we had a box and small cage in the house for him, when he was young. it was his crash pad when he got older if he didn’t want to stay out all night. He met a girl and built a nest and in a tree in the back yard. We could call him and he would come hopping over the garage roof. to a feeding stand we had in a tree. His girlfriend would come to the stand, and allow us to get very close, but we could never touch her. The first one was in 1958, so of COURSE we named him Alvin. The next year’s was name Theodore. In the winter they would beat on the screens to come in out of the cold. They both scampered straight to the dog’s bowl, take a few licks of water, grab a piece of dog food and run off to the inside nest/box/cage we had made. (The “cage” part had newspaper in it and they were both “house broken” to that area!
The lifespan is from 6-10 years, I believe. He was such a beautiful little creature and you gave him a privileged life he wouldn’t have had otherwise. He wouldn’t have had any life if you hadn’t picked him up.
Love those ears!
squirrels only live 6 yr. short life span
Lovely story, but why wasn’t it released back into the wild. Surely that would have been the right thing to do??
He was rescued by her
It would not be kind to re release a wounded animal, who would not had made it without her. SQUIRRELS, are a rodent, they do well in homes. They are smart, but once handled ,cared for ,and fed by hand, and the squirrel use to be injured. The chances and odds of his survival,is far better , in this case, than a re release. The squirel lived a happy comfy life. This woman ,has a great heart.
Read the article again, it said it couldn’t because it was blind in one eye.
The story said he was blind in one eye — probably why he got thrown out of the next. A squirrel blind in one eye probably could not successfully make the jumps from tree to tree and wouldn’t have survived in the wild, so they gave him the life of a privileged pet.
They said he wasn’t released because he was blind in one eye.
He was blind..
Hi Eileen, the story says this little guy was blind in one eye which may have been the reason he was ejected from the nest. In any case he would have found it hard to survive in the wild and would have been easy prey for predators. Either way I think this super cutie probably had a very happy, comfortable life.
This lucky squirrel had lost one eye, must likely it would not have survived in the wild. In fact that was probably why it was cast out of the nest.
This is such a heart warming story and I loved it.
Squirrels do only naturally live to be 5 or 6 years old…
But they can live up to 20 years in captivity look it up if you don’t believe me
+shasta … Squirrels do only naturally live 5 to 6 years or so. Sweet story though.
Squirrels can live up to 20 years in captivity look it up if you don’t believe me
because he was blind in one eye.
Arttu was blind in one eye, so they made the decision to keep him. He would have been at a disadvantage in the wild, and probably would not have survived.. What a great story. Animals are so loyal, grateful, and loving to their rescuers…
Loved this story ! I to have raised a red squirrel named him Chatter ,,,, and a gray squirrel Sara ,,,, and also a little flying squirrel named of coarse ,,,, Flyer !!! Chatter & Sara were released back outdoors ,,, sadly little Flyer passed away a few days after we had a house fire 🙁 … I try to keep little creatures when I can ,,,,,
Squirrels can live in captivity for up to 20 years . Look it up if you are a non believer. Love that baby as if it were your own. ?. ? ? ?
lovely to know that in this world where there is so much cruelty to animals there are still lovely human beings,,,
Yes, I agree. It is wonderfull to read about those that do care for these precious animals – God’s gift to us, his beautifull creations.
clearly made up different squirrels in photos
if you are talking about the squirrel near the rock that is where the memorial for the little squirrel that was found
its a different squirrel that came for food but the other pics r all the same
dont be so negative like really
About 10 years ago we also found, in fact my Airedale found a little black ball of fur by the cedar tree and was guarding it…remarkable because she chase any squirrel she could see or find. So I picked it up, took him in…he was so small his eyes were still closed and his tail was like hairless. Found a link for rescuing squirrels and found out what to feed him…we named him Cuddles and he stayed with us for about 5 months, slowly started coming outside with me, first perching on my shoulder and then taking runs to the trees, and one day he decided to stay out….I saw him many times after that when he would come and get threats. I was a great experience and Cuddles was perfect for him….
The most adorable story ever. This is what all of us should be doing out there for animals, and each other. I don’t know how people can kill
It’s a red squirrel from England. They are smaller and more gentle than our grey squirrels.
God Bless The Souls that Care for Animals that have No Chance. This one did and Thank the Rescuers of all God’s Creatures.
I grew up on a 1,000 acre farm in southern Quebec and there were always squirrels or chipmunks or baby pigeons that fell out of the nest. I was the once that had to save them all.I can remember on time going thru the grain bin to try to find baby mouse I could raise and couldn’t understand why my father was so upset with me lol. But at on point we even had a pet raccoon for a couple of years. It was a wonderful way for a child to grow up. I still miss it.
Not flying squrriel they are small and gray I have one
We found an abandoned baby Grey 8 years ago and she lived with us indoors ever since, what joy and pleasure she gave us. Unfortunately she died 2 months ago and we miss her so much.
