The 41-year-old Michigan angler is on everyone’s mind thanks to his catching of the unusual fish. He did not break any record in terms of size of the individual fish. The specimen caught, though, was very different in appearance from ordinary fish – instead of scales, it had dense white fur! The angler admitted that he had never seen anything like this, and at first he thought someone wanted to trick him and had tossed a toy cat into the water, but when he looked at the specimen, he realized that the vertebrate was alive and actually hairy.

Nobody knows what kind of fish it is, and how the fur came about. It turns out that this is not the first such case. Shaggy fish were observed in the United States as early as the 17th century and were described as trout-furry. Apparently, they were no different from ordinary fish, except that they were covered with fluffy hair. The specimens were placed in special showcases as proof that they existed and are not just part of our imagination. Tourists from various corners of the country are eager to go to admire them.
