Salty Dawg Saloon is probably the most famous pub in Alaska! From the outside it looks quite normal, but when you look inside, your eyes will see something incredible.
The building is almost entirely covered with genuine banknotes! It is tempting to take even one!
This wooden house was one of the first buildings built in 1897 in Alaska. For the first ten years it served as the office of the city, later it was converted into a railway station, a grocery store and a coal mining office.
In 1909, a second building was added and this place was transformed into a school that was for just eleven students and three teachers.
Only in 1957, the famous Salty Dawg Saloon was opened. The place from year to year gradually developed. The tradition of leaving the banknotes started a few years ago.
