The mixture of genes we inherit from our ancestors determines whether we are tall or short, or whether we have beautiful blond hair instead of a sad, thin pony tail on the head.
It’s nothing surprising and we only need one look at our parents and grandparents to notice how similar they are. We can easily predict the color of eyes, skin or hair looking at parents. Let’s not forget, however, about the genes which can remain inactive for several generations to finally surprise a blond couple with a dark-eyed and dark-skinned offspring.
But gene lines are usually quite straight and our aunts and uncles can often say that we are a spitting image of our father or that we smile like our mother. We should be happy when we inherit long legs or big eyes but we should remember that we may also inherit serious diseases. MilliAnna Worthy has learned that one can inherit a feature which will make them unique for the rest of her life. Find out more on the next page.
