Yoli Mayor survived true terror on the stage of “America’s Got Talent.”
Although the 21-year-old girl came to the talent show dressed and made up, as a diva with several years of experience, the huge shiny necklace and heavy hanging earrings didn’t add to her confidence. After about 10 seconds the disappointed jury interrupted the singer’s performance, claiming that they expected something completely different coming from such a young, adorable girl.
The judges were missing the rawness and energy from the young singer’s voice, who in their opinion came inappropriately dressed to the program, and as someone who she just wasn’t.
After just a few seconds of the song “I put a spell on you” from Nina Simone’s repertoire for the judges it was clear that they were not looking for what she had. Simon Cowell, the head judge, lifted his hand in the air, stopping the music.
Fortunately, a few moments later Tyra Banks, the program’s host, appeared on stage. The hostess decided to free the young girl from the unnecessary jewelry and uncomfortable shoes. Amazingly this little gesture worked wonders! The jury decided to give Yoli another chance.
The young vocalist was barefoot and no longer had her necklace on, but decided to sing “Make It Rain” by Ed Sheeran. Her performance impressed the judges who were rubbing their eyes in amazement.
The girl has been singing from the time she was 2 years old. She came to the program to fulfill her dreams. She showed that she has real talent. She also proved something much more important, which is that sometimes the little details can spoil something that we’ve been working on our entire lives. We shouldn’t give up then, but instead change what is broken and take advantage of the second chance we get.
