The behavior of domestic animals is very different and can be read in a number of ways. They cannot speak, so they do not say what bothers them and what they expect. We can only guess, and keep a close watch.
If the dog or cat is in the house from birth, it is easy to guess what’s behind their behavior. If the individual is taken in from the streets or a shelter learning their behaviors may be an uphill battle, as we do not know their habits and attitudes to the world and people.
You may find that they will be aggressive, or on the contrary – grateful that you opened up your heart to them and gave them shelter from the cold. Sometimes pets are scared of what happened in their past home or how cruelly they were treated by their owner. The tend to be distrustful, they have anxiety attacks or sit for a long time huddled in a corner.
On the following pages you can read about a doggie that watched his master every night, before he fell asleep. He did it for a very sad reason.
