More and more babies are born with various defects and diseases. Sometimes parents find out about this during the pregnancy through prenatal testing and sometimes their child’s sickness is a complete surprise for them and they realize that something is wrong after birth.
We do not know what’s worse. When you detect a disease earlier, you can mentally prepare for it. You can figure out what kind of problem you’ll have to face and get some knowledge about its treatment.
Mindy and Rob Seay from Anchorage, Alaska, were very excited when they learned that in a few months they would be parents for the third time. In their 20th week of pregnancy they heard something from their doctors that broke them. Their boy was diagnosed with a serious heart defect. Shortly after the birth of tiny Lincoln he had to undergo risky open-heart surgery. Specialists implanted a valve in him that kept him alive.
