Lydia struggles with life every day. She is sick with the rare Dandy Walker syndrome, which involves the accumulation of fluid in the brain. Doctors gave the baby a maximum of two months of life, a small fight every day for two years. Brain damage causes children to suffer from childhood paralysis. Bethan collects every penny for her daughter’s operation in the US. She saves what she can, so shopping is done at discounted food stores.
In one such store she noticed that young boys were laughing at her daughter. She was very sorry, but luckily Lydia did not understand that the children were laughing at her. She smiled at them like a child. However, this was not the worst. With the children were their mothers, who instead of scolding the children for being so contemptuous of a sick child, they laughed themselves! They pointed their fingers at Lydia and laughed aloud. Bethan was so shocked that she could not even say anything.
But what can we say, the behavior of these mothers shows how empty people can be.
