As we know, winter isn’t the best time for people to eat healthily. The lack of seasonal fruits and vegetables forces us to buy apples or tomatoes in supermarkets. Of course, everyone rather chooses the ecological ones available in neighboring vegetable or eco stands, but during winter it’s difficult for anything healthy and fresh.
Most often we go to the store and buy fruit and vegetables that are imports or artificially grown in a greenhouse. They look very appetizing, they’re beautiful and juicy without a sign of disease on the skin. However, there’s no need to fool yourself, their perfect appearance is because of pesticides, which are regularly sprayed.
As we know well, this is a poison, which should stay out of our body. Most pesticides are designed so that irrigation or rain doesn’t wash it away from the surface of the fruit or vegetable. They contain oily substances that are difficult to remove under running water. A question therefore comes up, how do you get rid of the harmful substances from the skin?
You can buy a ready formula used for washing it or use of any of the following methods. It should be noted, however, that the substances available in shops are quite expensive and not very effective (they remove only a part of the harmful substances). Fortunately, there are homemade ways. Here are two of them!
Wash the fruits and vegetables twice. First, in water with apple cider, vinegar, or lemon juice, then in water with non-iodized salt. The first rinse has an acidic effect, the second removes bacteria, the alkaline solution dissolves pesticides.
