Fruit is a very valuable source of vitamins, but on condition that it is not saturated with chemicals.
Apples are some of the most popular fruits in the world because they are quite easy to grow and can be grown in different climate conditions. In addition, it is a versatile fruit suitable for the preparation of many different dishes: it is ideally suited not only for bakery products, porridge and salads, but also for meat or other dinner dishes.
Apples are available in shops all year round. Big and shiny, they tempt customers but are they actually as healthy as we think? Unfortunately, after putting the apples under the magnifying glass, it turned out that they are being wiped off with wax to the limit!
Apples naturally produce some wax, which protects them from harmful agents. However, it is too small a quantity to make the fruit look tempting even a few months after it’s harvested. That is why apple distributors cover the fruit with an additional layer of wax, which is neither appetizing nor healthy.
Covering the apples with wax means they do not dry out so quickly, making them firmer and less prone to bruising. In addition, wax improves their color and helps to maintain the fragrance for a longer time, which of course translates into the market value of the fruit. Sometimes apple-coating waxes are still mixed with fungicides.
Is eating such wax healthy? It depends on what it was made from and how much of it is eaten, but regardless of what is its base, our bodies do not digest this type of substance! So, it is worth checking the apples you buy and effectively removing their slippery coating
