Provisions regarding transporting a child in a car seat are not a “whim” of the legislator, but have been established to carry babies to their destination safely, and to minimize the damage in the event of an accident. When choosing a car seat and mounting it – resorted to using a professional installer or at least a manual to be sure that you have not omitted any details and that your child will be safe while driving.
Seat belts are of paramount importance – they should fit tightly against the child’s chest. Not all parents will be aware that buckling a child in a safety seat wearing a thick jacket can be a threat to its life. In fact, it is hard to achieve adequate adhesion of the belts to the chest when in a jacket.
Every free space between the body of the child and the safety belts can be a mortal danger! To loose belts can cause the baby to slip out of the seat. It is also a lot more likely that in the time of the accident, but also heavy braking, the toddler will jerk forward.
A detailed explanation of the risk in question can be found in the video below. On the next page, you can see crash tests with mannequins in a jacket and without a jacket.
